At the heart of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, Casa Rosada – Anzan Atitlán serves as a bridge between contemporary art and diverse global communities, encompassing locales from New York to Paris. Rooted in the Buddhist term “Anzan”, meaning “quiet mountain”, the residency echoes the “less is more” philosophy. The house itself, with its distinct architecture, spacious open areas, and art accentuated by shifting daily lights and scenic views, is a living testament to this ideal. The residency’s mission transcends traditional art realms; it not only celebrates the house as a dynamic art piece but also aims to enrich it with artists’ creations, fostering a symbiotic relationship between art and space. These creations are envisioned as contributions to a future contemporary museum. By immersing in this unique environment, artists have the chance to connect with the local indigenous communities, sharing knowledge and introspecting without the distractions of the outer world.

Locally revered as Casa Rosada, this iconic pink cubic structure seamlessly merges into the sloping landscape of Lake Atitlán’s shores. Located a mere 3-hour drive from Aurora Airport in Guatemala City, the property can also be accessed through a swift 35-minute helicopter ride, allowing you to land directly on the premises. Encircled by the awe-inspiring presence of three mighty volcanoes and the deep, enigmatic waters of a crater-formed lake, Casa Rosada is an artist’s sanctuary.
The residency’s layout boasts a variety of spaces to cater to diverse artistic needs. This includes versatile three rooms, two specially designed studios—both closed and open—a generous exhibition area, and a myriad of workspaces. Every nook and cranny is designed to stimulate, inspire, and provide the ideal backdrop for artistic endeavors.
Beyond just a space, Casa Rosada is deeply intertwined with the community’s spirit. It proudly upholds a cherished bond with the non-profit, Ecolibri, which has been at the forefront of promoting artisanal crafts and education in San Juan la Laguna since 2004. This collaboration not only serves the local community but also connects artists worldwide, underlining the essence of global connectivity that transcends geographical borders and language barriers.

THE BEACH STUDIO
Nestled right on the beach, our small artist studio is the epitome of bohemian simplicity. Overlooking the serene expanse of the lake, this space is both a room to rest and a canvas for creativity. Its basic yet artful design exudes a rustic charm, making it the perfect backdrop for artists seeking inspiration from nature’s grandeur. VERSATILITY OF ANZAN LOFT
Perched above ground level, the Anzan Loft is an expansive retreat designed for both individual artists or collaborative pairs. Blending living comforts with an art studio’s versatility, it features a fully-equipped kitchen for gastronomic inspirations. Its elevated front porch not only ensures seclusion but also showcases sweeping views of the lake.

Our March exhibition was a resounding success, and it has inspired us to further develop our artist residency program. We are excited to announce that we are extending this creative opportunity into the heart of the San Juan village community. This initiative is designed to support the community we work with and nurture the talents of young artists who have signed up for a 3-week residency in June 2024.
